Schematic representation of roller burnishing process.

While improving the surface roughness of workpiece, the residual compressive stress will be generated in the surface layer which can improve the fatigue strength of workpiece.

By comparing the residual stress distribution of SUS304 after turning and rolling, it can be seen that the residual compressive stress in the workpiece after rolling is the maximum depth of shear stress from 0.08 to 0.10mm.

The results of the internal pressure fatigue failure test for the same shaped sample show that: The residual compressive force in the circular direction of workpiece after rolling can inhibit the occurrence of cracks near the fatigue limit and increase the fatigue strength by 30%.

How Integrated Drilling, Chamfering and Deburring Tools work?

During processing with the Integrated Drilling and Deburring Tool, First step, a through-hole is drilled through the drill bit and drill bit centering. Second step, upon entry, spring tension holds the cutting blade in the extended position as it removes the burr on the front of the hole. Third step, as the feed load increases, the pre-set spring tension is exceeded and the blade retracts automatically as the tool passes through the workpiece. Fourth step, spring tension again causes the blade to extend as it emerges from the ID of the part; the burr is removed on the back side of the hole on the return stroke.

Today, a client from Chennai, India; who asks RBT that whether we have the integrated tools for drilling, chamfering and deburring in one-pass. His requirements are machining a small size hole in a tube of EN8 steel, as below:

Workpiece Materials: EN8 Steel

Workpiece Hardness: Standard Hardness

Workpiece Diameter: 38 mm

How to select rollers for burnishing tool?

How to select rollers for burnishing tool?

  1. Ball burnishing

The ball can rotate freely when rolling with ball, which means there is no sliding rolling in the main motion and feed direction. Therefore, the surface quality of the processed part is good.

Surface roughness after ball burnishing Ra 0. 2 m ~ 0. 10 m) is very low. Ra0.05 / xm can also be achieved under the condition of matching the other process parameters, so the surface quality of the rolled parts is good. The contact surface between the ball and the workpiece surface is relatively small. Therefore, under the same unit pressure, the total pressure of ball burnishing tool can be reduced and the rolling pressure is lighter. It is suitable for small and slender precision parts of the outer surface and thin-walled parts of the inner hole rolling pressure. The ball burnishing tool is simple in structure and light in weight. When the ball is worn, the low price standard ball rolling tool can be used to reduce the cost to a certain extent.

  1. Pin roller burnishing

Pin roller burnishing tool can not only obtain good surface roughness like ball roller pressure, but also overcome the disadvantages of low ball life and adopt large feed quantity. Generally, 0.75mm/r~0.80mm/r is used for rolling pressure, so its production efficiency is high.

  1. Turning tool burnishing

The structure is basically the same as that of the turning tool, and the operation is the same as that of the turning tool. However, lathe burnishing tool is suitable for rolling edge of parts, and it is more suitable for rolling process of high hardness materials.

How to use groove single roller burnishing tool?

Single Roller Burnishing Tool:

External groove single roller tool with built-in pressure regulator (with elastic force). It is installed on the lathe for precision processing in the external groove, and is often used for shaft, cylinder seal ring and other processing.

Groove single roller tool can process the shape of different grooves by changing the shape of the wheel, such as outer sealing groove surface, R surface (inner R and outer R), inclined surface and so on.

Single Roller Burnishing Tool Operation Method:

  1. Select the suitable outer groove rolling tool or inner groove rolling tool, and install the tool mounting clamping part on the tool holder of the machine tool equipment.
  2. Make tool head fit with workpiece axis and groove center.
  3. The outer groove rolling tool design is equipped with a spring pressure regulating device, whose floating range is between 0.2mm ~ 0.4mm.
  4. For the best effect, please choose the appropriate roll pressure.
